Studies have shown that children who spend time pretending while they play develop faster intellectually than children who do not. Dressing up and pretending to cook are two types of play that can help stimulate a child’s mind. They are also enjoyable ways for children to interact with adults, as well as other children.
Dress for the Season
There are two ways to play this game, and either way will help children learn the appropriate ways to dress for different kinds of weather. Gather together a bunch of clothes into a pile that are weather appropriate for each of the four seasons. If you are playing with several children, you can split them into teams.
In the first variation of the game, tell each child or team a season, and have them pick clothes out of the pile that are weather appropriate and put them on. The winner can either be the child who gets the most correct outfits on, or the child who gets the correct outfit on the fastest.
If you have younger children in the group who are not able to easily dress themselves, help them put on an outfit, then ask them what season they are dressed for. This also works if you have older children put on different outfits and have the younger children guess what season they are dressed for.
Having a tea party is an ideal dress up and cooking game for young children. Prior to the tea party, allow the child or children to help you prepare snacks and drinks for the tea party. Then, each participant should get dressed up. Dress up can include dresses, hats, gloves, play jewelry or anything else available to them.
Tea parties are a great opportunity for children to imitate adult behavior, including learning table manners. Tea parties present the opportunity for a formal table setting. When little girls get dressed up in fancy dresses, it is the perfect opportunity to teach them etiquette.
At Your Service
In this game, the children take turns being the server and the restaurant patron. The child pretending to be the patron dresses up in fancy clothes. They browse a pretend menu and order their food. The child playing the server can also dress up and prepare the food using play food.
This game gives children the opportunity to pretend to be adults. They can act in a way they think adults act at fancy restaurants, and they can imitate things they have observed either from family or on television.
Dress up and Cooking games are not only fun to play, but in some cases can even teach girls and Kids real recipes that they can try in real life. As most of these games tell girls exactly what to do, there isn’t much of a challenge in completing it, but it can be educational. Let’s go! Play dress up games with me!
